Deceptive Ads: O How I Hate Thou

One specific thing that I absolutely hate is deceptive marketing. It is disgusting. When sombody intentionally tries to lie to somebody hoping that they will buy their product is horrible. When we were presenting our deceptive ads in class i realized after a few of them that i have seen ads like this before. I have seen ads that say "so and so does this, if you do it, then you could be just like so and so." Or how a product will intentionally leave out that somebody also has too diet and excercise in orer to loose weight. My favorite is when they say how amazing their product is but in microscopic print at the bottom right of the screen it says what is wrong with it. The idea for ciggerates was too create a character that was cool and "hip" that was always smoking in order to get kids to start smoking at a young age. They did this and it was banned in the 1990's. If this is banned why cant other types of deceptive marketing. If something is wrong with a product and their are side effects to it, the public should understand that completely. Cigeretess cause lung cancer, and a product can have just as horrific side effects. As we discussed in class about the snake that supposedly moved on its own, but was really pulled by a string is so deceptive but no body thinks it is worth it to spend that much money to fight it. Their are thousands of products like these sold to the public everyday, only for the public to realize that it is not what they wanted. Somebody must do somethign about this. Whether it be the goverment or the public at large some type of act must be passed saying that it is illegal to only say certain things about a product, everything about it must be told. OR!! all sales should not be final. If somebody buys a product and it is not what they were expecting they should be able to return it and get a full refund. But this does not work if side effects are not told to the consumer, because it may already be too late. If this is so, and the company did not tell of the side effects, the company should have to pay for all medical bills and any other expenses that come from the side effects that their product caused. I hope you enjoyed my biased view on deceptive ads, remeber if you have a legal issue, grab a tissue.

1. i think it's more so the adults that dont understand it, not like people our age

and

2. deff. agree with the fact that something should be passed making things more strict so that there are no problems when it comes to advertising.
